It has been some time since I have posted on here. But with some feedback from a professor, I am at it again!

This past week, I met the only other person I know that encouraged owning your domain and being able to market yourself on the internet to employers and others. It made me realize that this was and is a brilliant idea and any internet user is now capable of “Googling” me.

You may think that the title of this post refers to the hit Indie band Foster the People but as much as I love them, it doesn’t. Over the past two years, I’ve taken on many leadership roles and positions to better myself as a leader and organization member. At times, the opportunities become overwhelming because it is extremely easy to begin spreading one’s self too thin especially being a college student. I have become familiar with my abilities as a leader and have overcome triumphs from the mistakes I’ve made. I feel that I have reached a level for me to begin fostering in new leadership with the organizations and positions I hold. I’m not saying I won’t strive to further myself and to reach new heights but if we don’t elect to give others the chance to lead and learn from us while we have the opportunity and are still involved, it’s almost impossible for an organization or workplace to prosper.

Think about it.

The past two days have been beneficial yet increasingly demanding. It has helped me reaffirm my abilities to deal with conflict but also confirm that I would not choose to be a high school administrator or teacher. I’m baffled as to whether it is a maturity issue or due to a change in scenery with no parents or principals; but what are the coaches doing?

This weekend, we are providing housing for a camp of 6 basketball teams. Check ins were a breeze and we thought we were smooth sailing from there. However, last night and tonight changed our outlook. Random screaming and pounding erupted from the 2nd and 3rd floor as the noise level hiked in the building, the elevator is now making all kinds of weird squelches, and the halls now smell similar to a locker room.

I didn’t expect anything better from this group of young students but when it began coming from the adult chaperones, I was in for a surprise. I was wondering if the teenagers behaved like this at home but then it came to wondering if the adults behaved like this with their wife and children. Last night, I ran into an adult writing vulgar phrases on a whiteboard and today someone else argued with me about cleaning up food and water that littered our front desk.

A spoilsport is someone who spoils others’ pleasure. Some of the campers are making the most of it and I see them having a great time. There are plenty of respectable teenagers in this group but the few that are wreaking havoc are ruining it for the others. The group is viewed as a whole and their reputation is becoming infamous over the past 2 years.

I enjoy my job with housing because it keeps you on your feet and you never no what to expect. It is similar to that of a police officers shift. No call is ever routine.

I’m unsure what tonight will bring but my duty phone is ringing: a lockout or a ball through a window? Your guess is as good as mine.

A year in the making has paid off! However, that includes months of downtime and days when I said there is no point.

I am officially done configuring the website. All that is left to do is regular maintenance and blogging. Writing about oneself has to be one of the toughest things to do. It is similar to the question you get in an interview, describe yourself. What and how much do you say? I think I hit all elements without going too far into details.

The site was to be used primarily to display an about section, resume, and contact details; nothing further. However, I realized I could do so much more and incorporate it with my duties as a Resident Assistant. The resident resources page includes almost every question that is commonly asked and my response can now be, go to my page and its there. And who can’t forget what page to go to; if you know my name, you know where to go. I’ve even dropped Gmail and have my own email at josh@joshdarr.com. It is a bit repetitive but no one else in the WORLD has an @joshdarr.com email.

I have received positive feedback from acquaintances but I always welcome yours. Check back often for updates and let me know what you think!

For the past few months, I've been attempting to figure out just what I wanted to do to market myself to future employers and to keep in contact. I’m familiar with HTML but wanted something that was easy to update, looked professional, and didn’t need extreme design. I tried quite a few different hosting websites until I found Snap Pages which is working great! I’m very picky and finally found a design that works.

I’m currently working on updating the site, adding photos, and configuring the URL. It may be some time until I finally have the site the way I want it to be. In addition to my resume, I want the site to also offer some insight to my personal life and views. I hope to post once a week to keep the site updated. Look forward to something new soon!
